DK Metcalf Thinks Twice After Latest Fine From NFL

PITTSBURGH — Instead of engaging in extracurriculars, DK Metcalf chose not to dangle his checkbook in harm’s way. The Pittsburgh Steelers star wideout is better off for it.

Metcalf was asked why he ran away after Indianapolis Colts cornerback Jaylon Jones tried to kick up dust late in the first half of the Steelers’ 27-20 win on Sunday.

“Don’t say that,” he said, shaking his head disapprovingly. “You know I ain’t running away.”

Okay, well, maybe he didn’t run. Why would the guy who’s built like a Bionicle dodge a pesky defensive back?

Instead, let’s say he tactically retreated. Or chose the better part of valor. Took off. Leisurely trotted. Flew the coop. Disentangled. Decamped. Extricated. Kicked rocks.

Made sure the NFL wouldn’t fine him for the 16th time in his career. That’s the one.

“They love giving flags on me,” Metcalf said. “But my boy’s got my back.”

Put a pin in that.

DK Metcalf made it very clear he didn’t run away when Colts CB Jaylon Jones chose to try to mess with him after he whipped Kenny Moore II to the turf on a block. We’ll call it a light jog from the #Steelers WR.

Metcalf was fined $12,172 for appearing to poke at Green Bay Packers linebacker Quay Walker’s eye during the team’s Week 8 primetime loss. Before Jones approached and grabbed an unbothered Metcalf by his jersey collar, the receiver ragdolled Colts coverman Kenny Moore II to the ground on a block, helping Jaylen Warren earn three yards and a new set of downs on the fringe of the action.

After the much smaller Calvin Austin III entered the fold to divert the Colts’ affection, Metcalf quietly sailed away. Jones wound up being penalized for unnecessary roughness, pushing the Steelers into Chris Boswell’s field goal range.

“He ‘little boy’d’ the dude, and I’m like, ‘Dang, that’s crazy,'” Austin said. “Me and Roman were both like, ‘Dang, that’s crazy.’ It was crazy to see that. And then his boy did what he was supposed to do. If you see (your) man getting manhandled, you’re supposed to come and help your dog. He was pushing DK.

“We’re all brothers in this room and we’ve got each other’s back, and whoever it was at that time would’ve done the same thing. That’s just how our room is.”
