Along with the craziness that was the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 29-24 win over the Detroit Lions, DK Metcalf made headlines for his interaction with a fan at Ford Field.
As it turns out, it wasn’t the Steelers’ receiver’s first time hearing from that particular fan.
“Steelers WR DK Metcalf had a history with the Lions fan he confronted Sunday — Metcalf reported the same fan to Seahawks security last season while playing for Seattle, sources say,” NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero wrote Monday on X. “The NFL is reviewing the incident for potential discipline.”
The fan said afterward that Metcalf was upset he called him by his full name. Former NFL receiver Chad Johnson pushed back against that story.
“I got word — obviously, I’m not condoning putting your hands on a fan or punching a fan — but he did call him a racial slur,” Johnson said Sunday night on “Nightcap.” “He called him the n-word and he did call his mom a cunt. I think, with those words being exchanged and the fan saying that, I think that’s where the action occurred.
“That’s a bad combination (of words) … and it caused DK to react. I’m sure he will have to deal with some type of discipline. You know how the NFL is. No matter what’s said, they want you to be able to control yourself in that situation, but I understand.”
Metcalf had four receptions for 42 yards in the Steelers’ win. He leads the Steelers in receiving yards this season, but now awaits the punishment likely headed his way.
