PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers owned a 3-0 lead and, if not for a missed opportunity, could’ve stretched it even further early in their 30-6 Wild Card playoff loss to the Houston Texans on Monday night.
On a late-first-quarter second-and-10 from his team’s own 44-yard line, Metcalf ran a corner route, slipping behind Texans star cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. Rodgers’ pass hit him expertly in stride, but Metcalf couldn’t squeeze it.
“Shit, I dropped the ball,” Metcalf said afterward.
Rodgers was asked if the Steelers’ momentum was affected by the play. They punted two plays later, then the Texans marched 92 yards down the field to take a permanent lead.

“I don’t feel like we ever got the momentum on our side, honestly,” Rodgers said. “We had a lot of chances. Defense played really good in the first half. They’ve got a good defense. But we had a lot of opportunities. A lot of opportunities. Didn’t make the most out of hardly any of them.”
Much like he did last week, Metcalf expressed appreciation for the ability to be on the field for the matchup. He was suspended for the final two weeks of the regular season after an incident with a fan in Detroit.
“I’m just happy that my teammates played their butts off the last couple weeks of the season to just allow me the opportunity to come back and play with them for one more game,” Metcalf said. “But I mean, yeah, this shit sucks. That we had to go out like this. But we’re gonna watch the film and see what we can do better for next year. But, yeah, it’s tough right now.”
