New Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf doesn’t agree with those who believe the team needs to add another playmaker.
Many believe the Pittsburgh Steelers should add another wide receiver after trading George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys earlier this offseason. New Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf doesn’t think that’s necessary, though.
In fact, Metcalf believes Pittsburgh’s wide receiver room could surprise a lot of people this season.
“Calvin Austin, Roman Wilson, Scotty Miller, we got dogs everywhere around that room. A lot of people don’t give them the respect they deserve,” Metcalf said. “Just speaking on the wide receiver room, we have our own identity, and I think that’s what’s going to make us special, because the outside noise doesn’t carry any weight in this organization or in our room.”
“I think they’re the best defense I’ve ever seen.”

The Steelers wide receiver room may exceed expectations, but there’s a reason why many are so critical of it. Outside of Metcalf, who has never had less than 900 receiving yards and five touchdowns in a season, they are relying on a bunch of unproven, slot receivers.
Austin is coming off the best season of his NFL career, but he still only recorded 36 catches for 548 yards and four touchdowns. Meanwhile, Wilson missed most of his rookie year due to injury and Miller was on and off Pittsburgh’s practice squad last year.
That has created little faith in the group, and rightfully so. However, the Steelers will soon have the opportunity to prove their doubters wrong with the first preseason game around the corner.
Pittsburgh will head to Jacksonville this weekend to take on the Jaguars. If the team’s wide receiver room can make plays, it may be done making moves. If not, though, expect general manager Omar Khan to make one last addition to the group.
