Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it’s how the NFL free agent market is going to for pending free agent Najee Harris.
Harris is hitting the market at the best time for a running back in recent memory in many ways. A bunch of teams handed out big-money free agent deals last year, and two of them, the Philadelphia Eagles and Baltimore Ravens, struck gold with their signings. Saquon Barkley led the NFL in carries and rushing yards while leading the Eagles to a Super Bowl win, and Derrick Henry was right behind him on the rushing leaderboard for the Baltimore Ravens.
This time around, it’s a smaller free agent class, with just Harris and Aaron Jones likely to elicit big-money contracts, so a bidding war from teams trying to follow the Eagles’ blueprint could lead to a hefty payday for the Steelers former first-round draft pick. Alan breaks it down.
