They may have finally found their man in Yahya Black.
The massive interior defender has been turning heads in camp, displaying the combination of raw power, leverage, and motor that the franchise’s defensive front has missed in recent seasons. Coming from Peko, a 15-year NFL veteran who made his living battling in the trenches, the endorsement carries real weight. Black’s early progress suggests he isn’t just taking up space; he’s absorbing the finer points of hand placement, pad level, and shedding blocks.

Acquired: Selected in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, Black arrived in Pittsburgh after anchoring Iowa’s interior defense. At 6-foot-5 and 315 pounds, the former Hawkeye built his collegiate reputation on clogging lanes and swallowing double-teams—offering the exact physical blueprint the Steelers needed up front.
Last Year: As a rookie last season, Black appeared in all 17 games while making three starts in Pittsburgh’s interior rotation.
