After the game, wide receiver Chris Olave spoke of a big hit suffered on an incomplete pass that sent him to the medical tent. Many believe his response was a cryptic form of shade aimed at Spencer Rattler.

The pass catcher entered concussion protocol with a little less than nine minutes left in the matchup. His starting quarterback left him out to dry.

Did Chris Olave shade Spencer Rattler?

Speculation on the topic came following a postgame media session. Olave talked about the hit that forced him to briefly exit the contest.

“Every time they see me take a big hit, I feel like they take me to the tent automatically,” he said. “I feel like it’s going to happen more than usual this year.”

The internet immediately assumed he was making a dig at Rattler.

The signal caller is in just his second NFL season. He has a gunslinger mentality that often leaves his receivers in harm’s way.

Rattler isn’t afraid to throw into coverage. He tests his arm strength on a weekly basis. Sometimes, it results in a pinpoint dart that lands in a tight window.

Other times, however, it can lead to disaster.

The pass to Olave was criticized, and rightfully so. Rattler did not see the defender, who came in untouched with a clear path to a defenseless receiver.

With that being said, the pass catcher’s comments were not directed at his teammate.

The supposed dig was not aimed at his quarterback.

Instead, he was referencing his past history of concussions. While in college at Ohio State, Olave suffered a concussion against Nebraska in 2020.

In the NFL, he experienced another as a rookie, one more in Year 2, and two last season with the Saints, the last of which forced him to miss his final eight games.

While Olave says he’s “not worried” about the “unlucky” setbacks, the Saints are being more cautious with their star target. It’s resulted in unnecessary criticism of their starting quarterback.

Hopefully, Spencer Rattler is able to keep Chris Olave out of danger moving forward. The success of the offense could depend on it.
