Well, that didn’t go as planned. On what should’ve been a quiet Thursday morning, Dick’s Sporting Goods accidentally beat the Green Bay Packers to the punch. Instead of waiting for the big uniform reveal, the retailer appeared to post a brand-new Jordan Love jersey a little early, and NFL fans noticed.
The navy blue Packers jersey, complete with golden stripes and lettering, popped up on Dick’s website on July 23. It was listed as “out of stock,” but it didn’t matter. The leak had already done its job. The cat was out of the bag.
Green Bay Packers officially revealed the full alternate uniform on Thursday, just a day after the Dick’s website slip. And sure enough, it matched exactly what fans spotted online. The team confirmed it’s a throwback look, designed to honor the early days of Packers football.

They went all in. The jersey brings back a solid navy base with gold detailing, a nod to the team’s old-school colors. But it’s the helmet that really turns heads. It features a brown finish made to look like the leather lids worn decades ago.
“The #Packers have unveiled a new throwback uniform for the 2025 season – which includes a helmet designed to look like the old-school leather style,” NFL reporter Ari Meirov posted on X.

The team last wore blue uniforms in 2019, but this version brings a few new twists. Most notably, the old-time helmet look adds a sense of nostalgia that fans seem to appreciate. Early reactions have been positive, with many calling it a clean and respectful tribute to the franchise’s roots.
Training camp also opened on July 23, the same day the jersey first appeared on the retailer’s site. By the time players hit the field, the leak had already created buzz. Twenty-four hours later, the Packers dropped the full uniform set on their own terms.
The team plans to wear the alternate look during select games in the 2025 season. Fans won’t have to wait long to see it in action either. Packers kicks off its season against the Detroit Lions on September 7.
And next time, Dick’s Sporting Goods might want to double-check those upload dates.
