Pride of Detroit
The Detroit Lions (5-2) and Minnesota Vikings (3-4) will face off on Sunday night in a big game for both teams.
For the Lions, they want to keep pace with the top teams in the NFC, including the Green Bay Packers, who currently lead the division with a 5-1-1 record. With Green Bay facing a struggling Panthers team, a Lions loss could drop them 1.5 games behind the Packers. A win keeps them in striking distance and even gives them a chance at overtaking the lead.
The Vikings aren’t quite in must-win territory, but they’re getting close. Already in the basement of the NFC North, a fifth loss on the season would give them little margin for error in the final nine weeks of the season. And with games coming up against the Ravens, Packers (twice), Seahawks, and Lions (again), they could spiral in a hurry if they don’t get back to their winning ways.
The good news for both teams is that they are both continuing to get healthy. The Vikings should have both starting tackles back, plus defensive star Andrew Van Ginkel. Meanwhile, the Lions offense remains pretty healthy, and they’re starting to get defensive starters back. This week, it’s Brian Branch returning from a suspension and Terrion Arnold back from a shoulder injury. There should be zero excuses for either team this week.
