Buffalo Rumblings
The NFL finally did it, moving the Detroit Lions’ annual Thanksgiving Day game back to begin at 1 p.m. EST. As they’ve done for generations, The Lions open up America’s football-loaded turkey-centric holiday by hosting the Green Bay Packers in what should be a fantastic NFC North slugfest.
At 7-4, Detroit has slipped a bit this season, but they’re still one of the premiere teams in the NFC. As for Green Bay, they’re 7-3-1, and a bit similar to the Buffalo Bills with a Jekyll & Hyde dual personality in 2025. There are no Bills-related rooting interests in this one.
That said, there’s a certain kinship between the Lions Pride and Bills Mafia, as teams easy to root for any week other than when they face each other. Additionally, founding owner Ralph C. Wilson Jr. grew up in Detroit, MI and later called Grosse Point Shores, MI home. He also famously borrowed uniforms from the Lions during Buffalo’s AFL infancy.
Detroit has never made it to the Super Bowl, while the Packers have plenty of Lombardi Trophies from seasons long ago. The Lions did find success before the 1970 AFL-NFL merger, but that was before a large percentage of football fans were born (1935, 1952, 1953, 1957).
The Lions have a 38-45-2 record in Thanksgiving Day games, while the Packers are 16-20-2 all-time on Thanksgiving. Green Bay leads the head-to-head series against Detroit (107-78-7), having won their first meeting of 2025, 27-13, back in Week 1.
Here’s your open thread for Lions-Packers. As always, be kind to one another — and in all things… Go Bills!
