The Detroit Lions are looking to avoid back-to-back losses on Sunday, as the kick off the season with their second divisional matchup in a row. After losing to the Green Bay Packers, the Lions host the Chicago Bears in their home opener.
Chicago is coming off a loss of their own—a fourth-quarter implosion against the Minnesota Vikings on Monday night. The Bears seemingly had a hold on the game, leading 16-7 at the end of the third quarter with a chance to add to the lead on the first play of the fourth quarter. Unfortunately for them, a missed 50-yard field goal was the start of an all-too-familiar collapse. Chicago would give up three straight touchdowns and lose 27-24.
Both teams are hoping to get things on the right track before it’s too late. The Lions are facing a ton of outside doubt. Many offseason predictions suggested a “brain drain” in Detroit following the loss of both coordinators, and suggested the team could take a major step back. After a dud of a performance last week, those voices are only getting louder.
So if the Lions want to silence the doubters, winning at home against a fiesty Bears team ahead of their Monday night showdown with the Baltimore Ravens next week would serve them well.
