Detroit Lions tease special uniform choice for Christmas vs. Vikings

The Detroit Lions’ Christmas game against the Minnesota Vikings is still a few weeks away, but the team already teased a special uniform choice for the nationally-televised game on Netflix. Over on Instagram, the Lions posted a series of photos, asking viewers to “unwrap an early Christmas present.”

When you scroll through the final photo, it reveals Penei Sewell decked out in Detroit’s black, “Motor City Muscle” uniforms. And if there was any doubt about that being the reveal, the Lions essentially confirmed in the comment section that they will, indeed, be wearing those black uniforms. Fans are continuing to push for the blue pants with this combo, but it’s unclear if that will be the choice.

That said, this is a unique choice, because the Lions have never worn their black uniforms on the road. The choice certainly makes sense given that the Vikings have already announced that they’re wearing their alternate all-white “Winter Warrior” uniforms for the game.

While the game isn’t likely to hold much importance for the Vikings—whose playoff odds are currently less than 1% with their 5-8 record—it will likely be a critical game for the 8-5 Lions, who may need to get to 11 wins by the end of the season to punch their ticket to the postseason. Earlier this season, the Lions lost to the Vikings in a tough, 27-24 home defeat.

This Christmas matchup will be the second of a doubleheader on Netflix, with Cowboys vs. Commanders kicking things off at 1 p.m. ET. Lions vs. Vikings will kick off at 4:30 p.m. ET. There will also be a “Thursday Night Football” matchup on Prime Video between the Broncos and Chiefs at 8:15 p.m. ET.
