Friday’s preseason fixture between the Detroit Lions and Atlanta Falcons has been suspended following a serious injury to one of the players involved.

Lions defensive back Morice Norris was carted off the field and left the grounds in an ambulance after sustaining a head and neck injury in the fourth quarter of the game.

“The preseason game between the #Lions and #Falcons was suspended after Morice Norris was taken off in an ambulance because of an apparent head and neck injury,” NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport shared after the concerning incident.

Norris was battling for the No. 4 safety spot on the Detroit Lions roster and was given an opportunity in tonight’s game. But a tackle on Falcons running back Nathan Carter caused his head to snap back on contact with the offensive player’s right leg.

Medical personnel ran onto the field, immediately signaling for a stretcher. A few minutes later, an ambulance followed as players from both teams took a knee on the sideline.

The Detroit Lions were leading 17-10 with 10 seconds of the fourth quarter gone when the injury occurred. The game was delayed for over 20 minutes before it was decided that it should be be called off.

Reports indicate that Norris was blinking his eyes while being placed into the ambulance, suggesting he was conscious. He remains under observation at an Atlanta hospital.
