On Tuesday, the Detroit Lions announced the addition of two new practice squad players and the cutting of another.

As previously reported, the Lions have signed offensive tackle Devin Cochran to the practice squad. Cochran, who stands at 6-foot-7, 330 pounds, helps round out Detroit’s offensive tackle depth after veteran Jamarco Jones suffered a season-ending injury during practice last week. Depending on the health of Dan Skipper, who missed all of last week’s practices with an undisclosed injury, Cochran could be in contention to be the team’s primary backup tackle this week against the Chicago Bears.

Additionally, the Lions signed linebacker Monty Rice to the practice squad. Rice is a 2021 third-round pick of the Tennessee Titans, but he only lasted just over two seasons with his drafted team. Rice played in 35 games for the Titans and started 10. His best season came in 2022, when he turned 13 game appearances into 66 tackles, four tackles for loss, and a pass defended.

Last year, he was with the New Orleans Saints during training camp before being waived at cutdowns. From there, he was with the Falcons and Patriots’ practice squads, and eventually got the call-up for New England, playing mostly special teams in their final three games of the season.

At 6-foot, 233 pounds, Rice has a strong athletic profile. He ran a 4.58 40-yard dash and came to the pros after a highly productive career at Georgia.

To make room for Rice on the practice squad, the Lions have released Anthony Pittman, a local prospect who had spent time on and off the roster since 2019.
