Former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Devin Bush was arrested in the Pittsburgh suburb of Bell Acres on Sunday and more details surround his arrest have been revealed, and he could face greater punishment as part of the NFL’s domestic violence policy.
According to a copy of the criminal complaint filed by Bell Acres Police and obtained by Steelers Now, Bush was charged after allegedly assaulting his girlfriend in his home.
The victim, who reported that she is in a relationship with Bush, called 911 after the two got into an argument on Sunday morning. The female victim began recording the argument on her phone, and told police that caused Bush to chase her through the house, and put his full body weight on her to obtain the phone.
He was able to do so, smashing it. She also told police that he was looking for her iPad so that should not contact anyone, and also took her car keys. The victim left with her daughter to a neighbor’s house to contact police.
When police arrived on scene, they were able to view abrasions and cuts on the victim’s body that she said came from the struggle with Bush. Bush admitted to destroying the phone, but denied physically assaulting the victim.
Bush, who is currently a member of the Cleveland Browns, has been charged with simple assault, a second-degree misdemeanor, and harassment, a summary offense. A second-degree misdemeanor faces a maximum punishment of two years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
Because the victim of the crime is in a domestic relationship with Bush, he will also face league discipline, with a baseline six-game suspension if found guilty. Even if Bush is found not guilty of the criminal charges, the NFL will also conduct its own investigation and decide to punish Bush.
Bush, 26, was the Steelers’ first-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. Pittsburgh declined the fifth-year option on his contract in 2022. He spent the 2023 season with the Seattle Seahawks before joining the Browns in 2024. Bush re-signed with Cleveland on a one-year contract for the 2025 season worth $1.795 million on March 19.
