Jalen Ramsey reported to camp on Wednesday and told the media he is ready to play wherever to make an impact on defense.

UNITY TWP, Pa. — One of the biggest splashes the Pittsburgh Steelers made was the acquisition of Jalen Ramsey. His presence, along with Joey Porter Jr., Darius Slay, and corners like Cory Trice, who logged snaps last year, creates a question of where he fits in the defense. On Wednesday, Ramsey spoke to the media and is ready to find out.

#Steelers defensive back Jalen Ramsey was coy when asked about his role on the defense, where he’ll join fellow cornerbacks Joey Porter Jr. and Darius Slay:

First, the All-Pro corner was asked about what excited him about this new unit. “When you look at the defense, from the d-line, probably the best d-line in football,” Ramsey stated. “Me and Joey got some family ties … it’s a lot of excitement around the defense.”

Ramsey is not only excited about the defense; he made sure to point to the offense’s recently acquired firepower.

“The offense, too. A-Rod’s (Aaron Rodgers) here now. DK [Metcalf]–who I’ve had a lot of battles with–that’s been fun. [Robert Woods] is here. I played with him at the Rams,” Ramsey said of the Steelers’ offseason acquisitions.

The former Florida State Seminole is regarded as one of the best players and corners in the NFL. What exactly will his role be in Pittsburgh?

“Ima play football,” Ramsey simply said with a smile. “We’re gonna figure that out together.”

He was also asked if he was willing to move the defense. His response was again reiterating from earlier.

“I just want to play football. I don’t care where I’m at,” Ramsey said as he acknowledged the expectation to make plays. “I don’t think I’m getting paid what I’m getting paid to not be in a position to affect the game.”

One of the biggest reasons the Steelers decided to trade Mikah Fitzpatrick for Ramsey was the lack of splash plays from 2023-2024. Ramsey will likely be asked to be versatile and, most of all, make plays for the defense.
