Despite currently being winless on the season with a 0-4 record, the New York Jets aren’t a team the Dallas Cowboys can afford to overlook. The Jets are a team that has talent on their roster and have unfortunately been on the losing end of some really close games this year.
Of the Jets four losses this year, three of them have been by less than a touchdown and two of them have been by a field goal or less. The only game they’ve really been thoroughly beaten was against the Buffalo Bills, a team many are predicting as the Super Bowl favorites. The Jets are deceptively better than their record suggests.
Statistically speaking, the Jets have a lot more going for them than what meets the eye. Offensively they currently rank third in the league in rushing yards per game (144.5) thanks to a large part QB Justin Fields, who has a total of 178 rushing yards this year in three starts, second only to Jalen Hurts with 17 less carries. As good as their rushing attack is, they are only averaging 160.3 passing yards per game, ranking 29th in the league.
For a Cowboys defense that has been historically bad so far this year through the first four games of the 2025 NFL season, the Jets offense has the talent to give them problems. While Dallas has been better against the run this year, they are still giving up 123.3 yards per game, ranking 21st in the league. And as far as their pass defense is concerned, they are giving up nearly 300 yards per game (297.3), which ranks dead last in the league.
The Cowboys defense will be a key factor as to whether or not they can get another “W” on their record this week, but we all know the difference between another win or loss could come down to how well Dak Prescott and Company perform against the Jets defense.
Defensively, the Jets rank near the bottom of the league in nearly every category. They are currently 25th in the league allowing 130.5 rushing yards per game, 20th in the league in yards per game (330.2), and 28th in the league in points per game (30.0). But, they also rank 12th in the league in passing yards per game, which could be a problem for the Cowboys considering they could be without both CeeDee Lamb and KaVontae Turpin.
Considering the Cowboys currently ranked first in total yards per game (404.3) and passing yards per game (281.3), as well as ranking 12th in the league in rushing yards per game (123.0), this Cowboys offense versus the Jets defense matchup could be what ultimately decides the outcome of the game. Dallas still has their work cut out for them here though considering the starters they will be without.
With home field advantage and a talented enough roster who could give the Dallas Cowboys more trouble than they could be expecting, the New York Jets aren’t someone they...
