Desmond Watson could be the key to stopping the Tush Push. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers might bring him back in time to play the Philadelphia Eagles during Week 4 of the 2025 NFL season.

His weight loss journey is finally trending in the right direction!

This latest development with the heaviest player in NFL history the comes with very interesting timing. The Bucs organization may decide to use him against the reigning Super Bowl champions and the single most controversial play in league history.

Desmond Watson lost weight!

We last heard about Desmond Watson on Aug. 25 when the Buccaneers chose to cut him. It was a bit of a surprise because a move to the Non-Football Injury list would’ve allowed the team to pay him any salary it wanted while he continued to lose more weight but that’s how it went down.

Perhaps he just needed a reality check.

Regardless of the reason for the decision to cut him, Watson has been unemployed for the last month. No NFL team was willing to sign him to the practice squad. All he has had to do over the last 25 days is get in the gym and get moving.

Lose. More. Weight.

Well, it sounds like that plan has gone pretty well! The monstrous defensive tackle is no longer tipping the scale at 464 pounds.

According to Greg Auman of Fox Sports, Watson “looks like he’s made good progress shedding weight since he was cut last month.” The Buccaneers actually brought him to Tampa Bay on Friday for an official workout.

They will decide next week whether they want to add him to the practice squad.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers need to stop the Tush Push.

The Buccaneers are scheduled to host the Eagles at Raymond James Stadium next weekend. Watson could be a last-minute addition to the lineup.

NFL teams can elevate a player from the practice squad to the game-day roster up to a maximum of three times per player per season. Two players can be promoted to the active roster on game days.

If Tampa Bay decides to sign Desmond Watson to the practice squad, it could call him up to the game-day roster against Philadelphia as late as that Sunday.

He could be the plug. Literally.

There has been a lot of chatter about the ‘Tush Push’ in recent days. The NFL wiped all video clips of what seemed to be an illegal play from social media and sent out a memo on how to better officiate the rugby-like scrum moving forward.

Nobody knows how to stop it. Defenses have tried going under and over but the Tush Push never fails.

The Bucs could put the 400+ pound nose tackle in the game and use him to clog the middle of the pile in short yardage situations. What if the answer to the Eagles offense is just… Desmond Watson?!
