The biggest Pittsburgh Steelers headlines regarding the New York Jets’ decision to move forward without Aaron Rodgers in 2025 would have to be the potential arrival of the four-time MVP in the Steel City—and DeShon Elliott’s desire to keep him as far away from the Black and Gold as possible.
As many Steelers fans are well aware, Elliott took to social media to troll a potential Steelers-Rodgers union in 2025. The Steelers safety alluded to the 41-year-old Rodgers’ age concerns when he said the former Packers QB should be in a retirement home instead of with Pittsburgh next season.
While the way Elliott voiced his opinion was disrespectful—he wasn’t wrong. The Pittsburgh Steelers need a QB of the future, while Rodgers’ best days as a signal-caller are in the past.
The team’s questionable offensive line could use a mobile quarterback to bail out its inefficiencies in pass protection, while Rodgers likely needs to be carried to achieve any Super Bowl aspirations he may have in 2025.
With all that in mind, Elliott isn’t a GM, and no one could stop Rodgers from potentially playing his final season with the Pittsburgh Steelers—but little would be surprising after how the 2024 season ended.
