Derek Carr is suddenly not part of the NFL anymore, and his family might have to get used to having him home every day, though they might not find it that enjoyable, as there might be a lot of running involved.
The quarterback made a shocking retirement announcement on Saturday, choosing to call it quits on his career after an 11-year stint in the league.
It doesn’t appear that his day-to-day will be any less lively now that he’s no longer in the pros.
Derek’s wife, Heather, gave fans a look at her husband’s first day of retirement over the weekend.
The clip below begins with her asking what he’s going to do on his first day of the rest of his life.
“We’re going to go outside and run as a family,” he said.
Most would assume he was joking. He was not…
The video continues with the family sprinting in the backyard. Carr also spends time in the gym with his family, goes out for a date with his wife, goes golfing, plays catch in the yard, eats dinner with his family, hoses the garden down, and sits in front of a screen.

Derek Carr chose to retire after sustaining significant shoulder damage while rehabbing in March. He would have had to undergo surgery and miss the entire 2025 season, but has opted not to do so.
“I sleep well knowing that I gave my teammates, my coaches, and my cities my all,” he said in an Instagram post. “Now, I look forward to whatever God has next and I’ll pursue it with the same fire I brought to the field.”
It looks like the four-time Pro Bowler will be having a lot of fun after closing that chapter of his life.
