The quarterback market in the offseason is set to center around New York Jets Quarterback Aaron Rodgers. He’s set to part ways with the New York Jets this offseason, and there will be a few teams who think the aging superstar is the solution to their quarterback woes.
But, Derek Carr, currently with the New Orleans Saints, may provide the better and cheaper option for a team looking to upgrade at quarterback this offseason.
Things haven’t necessarily worked out for Carr in New Orleans, as they’ve missed the playoffs two years in a row since he signed with the team. But, he’s played pretty well.
Carr has thrown 40 touchdowns against just 13 interceptions in New Orleans, and has a passer rating at just under 100, coming in at 98.8. And, he’s won over half of his starts in the Big Easy, coming in at 14-13. Considering that the roster is not particularly good, that record is honestly pretty solid.
Carr has his warts, and has been known to put wide receivers into harm’s way at times. But, he’s a pretty solid NFL quarterback that could make plenty of teams better.
Carr, who has two years left on his contract and will enter his age 34 season in 2025, could be made available by a team that desperately needed a rebuild.
Garafolo: Saints to decide Derek Carr's future with team over next few weeks; likely to have multiple suitors if he leaves New Orleans.

Compared to Rodgers, Carr is younger, less of a headache and media circus, and has played at a very comparable level to Rodgers the last few years. He should come at a cheaper price tag, too, and quarterback-needy teams looking to contend like Pittsburgh should be looking at him.
