The Denver Broncos have released veteran long snapper Zach Triner to make room for newcomer J.K. Dobbins.
On Tuesday, the Broncos signed the former Baltimore Ravens and Los Angeles Chargers standout running back to a one-year deal. Needing to clear a roster spot, the team has released Zach Triner, per Zack Kelberman of Sports Illustrated’s Mile High Huddle site.
The Broncos signed Triner days before the 2025 NFL Draft in April, only to release him on May 9. Triner was brought back three days later, but the signing of Dobbins led to Triner being cut once again.
Zach Triner split the 2024 season with the Miami Dolphins and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Though he signed with the New York Jets in 2017, Triner wouldn’t play an NFL snap until the 2019 season with Tampa Bay.
Triner was the Bucs’ long snapper from 2019 midway through the 2024 season, winning a Super Bowl 55 ring in the 2020 campaign. Triner played all four postseason games for the Tom Brady-led Bucs, who upset the Kansas City Chiefs in the big game to win their second title in franchise history.
Mitchell Fraboni has been the Broncos’ primary long snapper since 2023, but he’s currently recovering from an offseason back procedure. Triner was brought in as short-term insurance, but his release indicates that Denver expects Fraboni to be ready for the regular season.
Triner’s experience means he shouldn’t be out of football for too long. He may be 34 years of age now, but experience is always pivotal at special teams positions, including the long snapper.
With 84 games under his belt, Triner should find another team at some point between now and the end of the 2025 regular season.
