Sitting at 6-2 after pulling out some tough, hard-fought victories, the Denver Broncos don’t have much to complain about this season. Yet, there have also been some close calls, like in Weeks 2 and 3, where the Broncos lost by one to the Colts and by three points to the Chargers. In other words, there’s room for growth.
That’s especially true for an offense that has caught fire in the past two weeks, scoring 33 and 44 points while topping 400 yards of offense each time. Their effort has been just enough to help the Broncos stay atop the AFC West, but the Chiefs, who have won three in a row, are gaining ground. Like the Chiefs, the Chargers are only a game behind the Broncos too.
Though with the Nov. 4 NFL trade deadline rapidly approaching, the Broncos are a team that’s been frequently linked in reports, especially involving receivers. The latest batch of Broncos trade rumors was followed by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, noting that he’d “bet that Rashid Shaheed is the guy who interests most teams” when referring to a group of Saints receivers available via trade.
Perhaps it’s no coincidence that Schefter jumped right over to the Saints after revealing that the Bills, Broncos, and Steelers are three teams that have been trying to trade for another receiver. After all, Shaheed entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Saints in 2022, just a year after Sean Payton left New Orleans.
A year later, Shaheed earned first-team All-Pro honors thanks to his special teams skills, where he returned a punt return touchdown. While the 27-year-old brings valued experience as a returner, Shaheed has also been quite productive as a receiver.
He’s actually on track for a new career-high 916 yards this season. While his target share may decrease if he does get traded, Shaheed has no chance to reach the postseason in New Orleans this year, and he’d likely appreciate an opportunity to experience playoff football for the first time in his NFL career.
Set to be a free agent at the end of the season, the Saints don’t have much to lose by trading Shaheed now, especially if a team like the Broncos is willing to make a respectable offer.
