Mile High Report
According to TMZ reports, Denver Broncos edge rusher Jonathon Cooper has been arrested and is being held on two counts of domestic violence and one count of criminal mischief. The incident appears to have occurred on Thursday night.
Jonathon Cooper is behind bars in a Colorado jail … after the standout Broncos linebacker was arrested Thursday night around 11 PM, TMZ Sports has learned.
It’s unclear what led up to the arrest, but the 6th-year pro is being held on two counts of domestic violence, as well as criminal mischief. The 28-year-old was booked into a detention facility at 2:38 AM.
It has been a hot minute since Broncos Country has had to discuss a player arrest and this is the first real off the field situation this regime has had to deal with surrounding a starter.
The Denver Broncos released a statement on Friday morning, “We are aware of the matter and gathering more information.”
Cooper, 28, is a sixth-year veteran who was a 2021 seventh round pick by the Broncos. He has locked down the edge position opposite Nik Bonitto and has 27 sacks and a defensive touchdown over the last three seasons. Any suspension by the NFL would certainly impact the defense, which potentially makes veteran Von Miller a possible option depending on how this plays out.
Not a great way to end OTAs this week.
Updated information has Cooper’s girlfriend also being arrested in this incident.
