Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders provided candid details about his recent battle and recovery from bladder cancer on Monday.

Among the revelations that stood out was that New England Patriots legendary wide receiver Randy Moss played an instrumental role during Sanders’ battle, providing moral support to “Coach Prime.”

“Randy Moss called me every other day to make sure I was straight. Randy Moss prayed for me… He gave me so much strength and so much guidance and so much love. Thank you, Randy,” Sanders said during Monday’s press conference.

Well before his time at the helm in Colorado began, Sanders was one of the most talented players in NFL history with an equally eccentric personality. What Sanders brought to the game in the 1990s, Moss carried into the 2000s.

The pair of Hall of Famers’ playing careers only crossed over for five seasons, from 1998 to 2000 and again in 2004 and 2005. Sanders was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2011 (one year before Moss retired) and his counterpart was enshrined in 2018.

The duo also share a unique bond in overcoming cancer, as Moss recently beat the disease and returned to his role as an ESPN NFL analyst.

“He and his wife (Lydia Moss) told me what I needed to be doing. He’s gone through some things very similar. But, Randy Moss, man. I love him to life, love him more than ever,” Sanders said.
