Deion Sanders had a wholesome reaction to the Cleveland Browns drafting his son, although it hardly went the way he expected.
Shedeur Sanders, one of the two highest-rated quarterbacks coming into the draft, slipped all the way to the fifth round. The Browns traded up to get him after previously selecting Dillon Gabriel. He and Gabriel are set to join a stacked QB room that includes Deshaun Watson, Kenny Pickett, and Joe Flacco.
ESPN reports that the Browns were keen on drafting Shedeur and had started making phone calls during the first round to find out what they would need to give up to get him.
Coach Prime is clearly not fond of Cleveland and had already made it known that he didn’t want his sons going there, claiming that they were “praying for New York” ahead of the draft.
Even so, it’s understood that he contacted GM Andrew Berry and the Browns’ front office to thank them for taking a chance on Shedeur.
“Later, Deion Sanders FaceTimed Berry, with whom he built a good relationship throughout the pre-draft process, according to a source with knowledge of their conversations,” Daniel Oyefusi revealed.
Oyefusi added that Prime is good friends with Browns quarterbacks coach Bill Musgrave, who was his teammate when he was with the San Francisco 49ers in 1994.
Sanders also thanked the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for signing his other son, defensive back Shilo Sanders, who went undrafted.
