The Kansas City’s Chiefs are trying to win their third consecutive Super Bowl, while the Eagles are trying to be the team that both began and ended the Chiefs’ streak.
Super Bowl LVIX takes place this Sunday, February 9, at 6:30 PM ET from Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, LA. The game will air on FOX.
My preview and prediction are below, followed by the rest of our staff picks. Also, don’t forget to check out all the latest odds at FanDuel Sportsbook, which have the Chiefs favored by 1.5 points over the Eagles and the over/under at 48.5.
Here we go again. The Chiefs, Super Bowl reign began three years ago, when they defeated the Chiefs 38-35. With the way the teams from the AFC and NFC were playing this season, of course everyone knew that a Kansas City-Philadelphia rematch was a possibility, but people were hoping for a fresh match-up, particularly one that involved either or both of the Buffalo Bills and Detroit Lions.
The Eagles may have choked in the second half of last season like nothing I’ve ever seen, but that hasn’t been an issue this year. They have also been the most dominant team in the postseason, blowing through the Packers 22-10, the Rams 28-22, and the Commanders 55-23. Teams often get away from the ground game in the heat of the playoffs, but that’s been the beauty about the Eagles: they have stuck with it, and Saquon Barkley looks like he could have been the MVP of the league (it went to the Bills’ Josh Allen). Philadelphia’s defense plays well too.
The Chiefs have basically lost one game all season, which they avenged when they eliminated the Bills in the AFC Championship last week. Their motto has been more about getting the job done offensively, where they seem to do just enough or get enough clutch plays to stay in and then win the game. I still remain firm that their defensive play is the reason they’ve been able to do what they’ve done.
This is obviously a tough pick, and Vegas has it right that it’s anyone’s game. On paper, I feel like the Eagles’ formula should be good enough to beat the Chiefs, but then I revert to thinking, ‘Kansas City just seems to find a way.’ Chiefs 27, Eagles 24.
Jared Mueller: “The Eagles are a better team with a deeper roster and the data backs that up. Having said that, betting against the Chiefs seems silly at this point no matter what the data says.” Chiefs 24, Eagles 23.
Barry Shuck: “I really think that the Eagles have the better team. Their defense was ranked #3 against the pass which is the Chiefs’ offensive strength. Both squads are about equal against the run. Having said all this, all year I never beat against the Chiefs and whatever their win-loss record was my win-loss record choosing them. They...
