Barstool’s Dave Portnoy has once again addressed the celebrity boxing match between John Rocker and Patrick Mahomes Sr., and things are not looking good for it to happen.
Portnoy told TMZ Sports that a bout between the dad of the Chiefs’ superstar quarterback and the former Braves closer that was initially set for April has been officially canceled.
“That fight ain’t gonna happen,” Portnoy said.
“The Mahomeses shut that down. I think Patrick, the quarterback, was like, ‘Why the hell is my dad fighting John Rocker in Rough N’ Rowdy?’ So, he got in the middle of it. They got in the middle of it and didn’t allow it to happen.”
Portnoy previously said on “The Unnamed Show” that the fight fell apart after Brittany Mahomes and Mahomes’ agent intervened.
“Mahomes’ agent, the football player, and Brittany — from what I am told — intervened and were like, ‘There’s no way this fight’s happening. We’re going to cut this guy off if he does it,” Portnoy said.
“They came to us … they hated each other and wanted to fight,” Portnoy added, indicating that the idea originated with Rocker and Mahomes Sr. themselves.
Mahomes Sr., the father of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, created a bit of a stir when video emerged of a squabble with former baseball player John Rocker on Bourbon Street in New Orleans.
The problem for the elder Mahomes is that he’s currently on probation after a third DWI. The fight arguably violated the terms of his limited freedom at the time.
In February, a heated altercation between former Major League Baseball pitchers John Rocker and Patrick Mahomes, the father of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes II, went viral.
It turns out that it was all a promotion for a boxing match.
Unfortunately, Brittany Mahomes shut that all down.
Rocker was not happy about the change, having agreed to fight the older Mahomes in an event that was supposed to have already taken place.
He decided to go after Brittany.
“Instead of fighting today, he backed out like a little bitch because his son and his loser wife decided it’d be a bad look to the family name for him to get in the ring,” he wrote.
