Adams gave his opinion on Hunter’s ability to play both sides of the ball at a high level. He suggested that the Heisman trophy winner’s pro career will be short-lived should he continue to chase his dream.

That desire centers around playing both offense and defense for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Hunter shined as a two-way player at the University of Colorado. He led the team in both interceptions and receiving yardage.

There are doubts, however, on his ability to continue the success in the NFL.

Davante Adams is a skeptic.

“I don’t even think it’s possible to do, for real,” he said when asked about Travis Hunter’s ability to play both sides full-time. “Not at a high level.”

“It’s hard enough to go cover a punt and then be on one side… That’s just a lot of mileage, man. I’m not even concerned if he can do it over the course of a game or season. It’s like, how long is his career going to be?”

Adams says Hunter is doubling his risk of injury by playing offense and defense. That, alone, would impact the length of his career.

He also hinted at a potential dip in production. There’s a reason many of the top players at their positions don’t play special teams. It’s taxing. Coaches want you to be at 100%. And that’s and extra handful of snaps.

Hunter is asking to play more than 100 snaps a game. He did it at college, successfully. Adams is hesitant to believe that it can continue.

He does want Travis Hunter to be great, though.

Many ran with his response to question about offense and defense. They took it as a swipe at Hunter’s ability. A narrative soon formed online. Davante Adams clarified his stance after the fact.

A popular social media account reposted his initial quote on Travis Hunter’s future. Adams called it clickbait.

In fact, the wideout was extremely supportive of the incoming rookie throughout the interview. He’s a fan!

Adams wants to see Hunter succeed, even if that means picking one side or the other. Hunter was the first name listed when asked about players Adams hopes to see perform in 2025 – and beyond.

The discussion on Hunter’s position will continue throughout his first year. He’s shown flashes on both sides in camp thus far.

If it were up to QB Trevor Lawrence, offense would be the choice. Most, however, believe defense is the best route.

Hunter is not ready to pick a side quite yet. He made that clear in the pre-draft process. Davante Adams says time is ticking on what’s an imminent decision.

He will eventually approach a fork in the road, as early as Year 1. Hunter will have to choose one side or...
