Aaron Rodgers has a long list of accolades. A day after the future Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback and the Pittsburgh Steelers were suffocated by the Houston Texans in the franchise’s latest playoff letdown, his former teammate hopes Rodgers isn’t done adding to that catalog.
On Tuesday’s episode of “Up & Adams,” Los Angeles Rams receiver Davante Adams discussed what could’ve been Rodgers’ send-off performance, one that ended in a pick-six in a 30-6 loss.
Rodgers went 17 for 33 for 146 yards and that interception. He was sacked four times, fumbling once and watching Sheldon Rankins thunder into the end zone with it in the fourth quarter.
“Well, one, I’m just heartbroken for him because I know how much he wants it and I know how much he deserves it, obviously,” Adams said. “To see that game end that way, that’s not how any of us saw it happening and definitely don’t want his career to end that way. That’s one of my best friends, so that hurts me, hurts my heart a little bit to watch. But ultimately, just hoping that there’s some left there for him to continue going.
“I just wanna see him happy and see him at least finish the way that he deserves to finish.”
Adams, who’s in the middle of a playoff run with the Los Angeles Rams, isn’t badgering the four-time Associated Press NFL MVP about what his future holds.
“Any time you’ve played 21 years in this league, you’re in your 40s — nobody’s talking me into playing when I’m in my 40s,” Adams said. “I’m not gonna be on his back about it, but it’s something that I definitely support, just to see him go out the right way.”
Rodgers ranks No. 5 in league history in career passing yardage, No. 4 in passing touchdowns and has an all-time low interception percentage (1.4%). He won Super Bowl XLV, beating Mike Tomlin, Ben Roethlisberger and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The show’s host, Kay Adams, would like for Rodgers to give it one more go, as well.
“I think my opinion of what the right way (is) as a fan of his, somebody who also really likes him, what that looks like, it used to be, like, walk-off, (Tom) Brady, Peyton (Manning), get the ring, go to Disney,” she said. “There’s something about this year that felt like he’s just more fulfilled. Happy’s not the word. … He still can throw it. He looked great all year.”
