Darren Waller made his return to the NFL on Monday night as he not only suited up for the Miami Dolphins in their Monday Night Football game against the New York Jets, but he also scored two touchdowns. Waller had not played in an NFL game since 2023.

Despite the fact that the former Pro Bowl tight end was seeing his first NFL action since late 2023, he was still effective enough to down the lowly Jets with two touchdowns

After his revitalizing performance, Waller appeared on the Dan LeBatard show and said that he felt like he was “on drugs” for most of the game.

Darren Waller said his return to an NFL field in game against the Jets made him feel like he was “on drugs”

This analogy is particularly relevant when it comes to Waller, as he was infamously suspended for the entirety of the 2017 season for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy. In an interview with Men’s Health in January, his college diet was described as being “cocaine, marijuana, alcohol, and touchdowns.”

“I’m not going to lie. I felt like I was on drugs most of the night. It was kind of crazy.”

Waller’s return and breakout came at a key time for the Miami Dolphins as they lost Tyreek Hill to a brutal dislocated knee injury in the same game, sidelining the Pro Bowl wide receiver for the rest of the season.

Over the course of his career, including the three catches he had against the Jets on Monday night, Waller has 353 catches for 4,151 yards and 22 touchdowns. His best season came in 2020, when he was named to the Pro Bowl after catching 107 passes for 1,196 yards and nine touchdowns with the Las Vegas Raiders.

After scoring their first win of the season against the Jets, Waller and the Miami Dolphins will travel up to Carolina to take on the Panthers for a Week 5 matchup on Sunday, October 5.
