New Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy has brought several new methods and philosophies to the organization. During a recent appearance on Cam Heyward’s Not Just Football podcast, tight end Darnell Washington revealed one of the big changes.
Compared to Mike Tomlin, McCarthy has stricter guidelines on players reaching weights, whether increasing or shedding pounds.
“Definitely with the new staff and these new weight fines this year, for sure gotta work on that,” Washington said. “And for sure gonna have to get down.”
Washington is listed at 264 pounds on the team’s official website, but he’s actually much bigger. Washington confirmed last season during an appearance on the St. Brown Podcast with Amon-Ra St. Brown and Equanimeous St. Brown that he’s 311 pounds.
“I ain’t finna going cap to y’all. I ain’t weigh myself in a minute, but I know. I’mma keep it a buck, I’m 311,” Washington said.
Washington is a gigantic human being, standing at 6-foot-7, 311 pounds. He also revealed last offseason that he lost 10-15 pounds, so he was nearly 330 pounds at one point.
“Yeah, I dropped about 10 to 15 pounds,” Washington said last year during OTAs. “I feel a lot better. I just thought it was something I needed to see happen.”
Washington revealed to Heyward that managing his weight is something that he needs to work on.
“I just think my body filled out more. I could be for sure wrong, but I love food. Everybody got an addiction. Mine is video games and food,” he shared. “So that’s something I for sure gotta work on.”
