When Darius Slay signed a one-year, 10 million dollar deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers in March, it was a popular move among fans. The veteran corner is coming off a Super Bowl victory with the Philadelphia Eagles and brings veteran presence to what was a very young group in Pittsburgh. However, his fight with current Steelers tight end Darnell Washington is still fresh in fans’ memories.

The fight occurred during a game in which the Steelers were defeated by a score of 27-13. The fight with Washington escalated into a multi-player altercation, resulting in several penalty flags being thrown. Since joining the team, he was fighting with just several months prior, Slay was asked about his fight with Washington on Cam Heyward’s podcast “Not Just Football.”

“So I’m like, oh, he thinks it’s a game. So me knowing that he’s 6’8″ or whatever he is, and he had, you know, had a long arm. He long-armed me, I can’t reach his face. So he got a little bend in his arm, and when that bend came, it was one of these.” Slay said regarding the lead-up to the punch he landed on Washington. “The team did what it did. But we’re cool now. We done chopped it up. We laughed about it.”

Although there appears to be no hard feelings between Slay and Washington regarding the incident, it remains fresh in their minds.

“But I’m lowkey still mad though because he tried to bully me,” said, drawing laughs from Heyward and Ramsey.

Slay isn’t the only corner to join the Steelers this offseason who has a history with the Steelers. Jalen Ramsey, who has a reputation for his trash-talking talk had his fair share of run-ins with Pittsburgh during the 2018 season. Not to mention his battles with now teammate DK Metcalf over the years.

The veteran corners now find themselves playing together on what will be one of the most star-studded defensive units in all of football.
