The New York Jets have a lot of problems after a disastrous 3-14 finish this season. However, the position they need to address more than any other is quarterback. Fortunately, with such a bad season result, they were given the perfect opportunity to address that problem by getting the No. 2 pick in April’s NFL Draft.
All signs pointed to New York using that selection on Oregon Ducks star Dante Moore. The man universally viewed as the second-best QB in this year’s class after Fernando Mendoza. He is expected to be taken first overall by the Las Vegas Raiders.
However, despite being a near lock to be the No. 2 pick, Moore stunned the football world on Wednesday and chose to stay in college for another season. With him off the board, the NY Jets must now pivot to the other options this year. With that in mind, let’s look at five other QBs the team could use a Day 1, 2, or 3 pick on in April.
After Mendoza and Moore, Alabama’s Ty Simpson is seen as the next best QB in 2026. Furthermore, he is an option they could land with pick 16 in Round 1 and use the second overall selection on the best player available.
If not for a late-season slump, a debate started to emerge in 2025 that he could be taken before Moore. While he doesn’t have a big arm, he can make all the passes needed at the next level and is a smart pocket passer. However, his size and average mobility are the biggest knocks on his game.
Heading into the 2025 college football season, LSU’s Garrett Nussmeier was getting buzz as a sure-first-round pick. However, this past season was a disaster as he seemingly regressed, and risky throws in 2024 were turnovers this past year. He also does not have standout physical traits in his arm or legs.
However, what makes him a sleeper option later in the draft is that New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier is his father. So he understands the game on an Xs and Os level. Plus, he has the unique QB intangibles that NFL teams love and can’t be taught.
A couple of years ago, no one even heard of DII star Trinidad Chambliss. Even at the start of this season, he was an afterthought. However, a Week 3 injury to Austin Simmons allowed him a chance to be the starting QB for Ole Miss. He outplayed even the biggest expectations and helped lead the Rebels to the semifinals of the college football playoffs.
