What Anthony Richardson's injury means for the former Giant

The Indianapolis Colts quarterback situation seems to be settled. Former New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones appears to be the Colts' starter.

Though perhaps not the way anyone may have wanted.

The Colts nominal starter, Anthony Richardson suffered a sprained AC joint on OTA practices on Thursday. For those playing the home game, that's the same injury that ended Richardson's rookie season.

The two quarterbacks were in competition after the Colts signed Jones away from the Minnesota Vikings in free at this year. The intention was for Jones to compete with Richardson. While Jones was disappointing with the Giants, but Richardson was one of the worst quarterbacks in the NFL last year.

The Colts drafted Richardson out of Florida with the fourth pick of the 2023 draft. While Richardson has incredible athletic potential he has yet to come close to realizing it.

It's been suggested that Jones' performance in Indy could be a referendum on Brian Daboll. Daboll was hired to develop Jones, but the quarterback never took another step after 2022.

Some believe that Jones playing well in Indianapolis could reflect poorly on the Giants' coach, though it's unknown whether John Mara shares that opinion.

The Giants and Jones parted ways during a tumultuous 2024 season after the quarterback was benched mid-season. Jones requested his release after being benched, which was granted.

Now it seems we'll get the chance to see Jones in a completely new situation.
