Daniel Jeremiah mock draft has Seahawks going FCS route at No. 18

Wide Receiver or Offensive Lineman are the top choice mulled over in this mock draft.

Longtime NFL Draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah has released his second mock draft of the season. In his first mock draft, he had the Seattle Seahawks taking Kenneth Grant, a star defensive tackle out of Michigan. However, in the second mock draft, Grant had already been selected just two picks before Seattle, by the division rival, Arizona Cardinals.

Despite Grant already being taken, the Seahawks still had a handful of prospects that could make sense. Of those available, the most intriguing, and frankly most surprising option still available was wide receiver, Tetairoa McMillan out of Arizona. McMillan has been regularly mocked as a top-10 pick, so if he was still available for Seattle at 18, John Schneider could be easily be tempted to go for the skill guy over the offensive lineman that many Seahawks fans are clamoring for. Adding McMillan to the Seahawks receiving corps (possibly as a replacement for Tyler Lockett) would be awfully intriguing.

However, Daniel Jeremiah has Seattle skipping on McMillan. Rather, Jeremiah projects that Seattle goes for the meat and potatoes option of an offensive lineman. At 18th overall, Jeremiah has the Seahawks taking, offensive lineman, Grey Zabel out of North Dakota State.

In his selection, Jeremiah states:

“Zabel has five-position flexibility on the offensive line and could start at one of the interior spots from Day 1. He was dominant at the Reese’s Senior Bowl.”

If you look back at Jeremiah’s article about Senior Bowl standouts, on the list was Zabel. In this article, Jeremiah states that Zabel put himself in the first-round consideration after impressing in practice during the week; noting that Zabel already showed on film that he can play tackle and guard, however he impressed when he took snaps at center during practices too. This position flexibility is one of the best ways to surge your draft stock. And surge it did, notably Zabel was not even in Jeremiah’s first mock draft.

Zabel to Seattle would be a very intriguing selection. He is a fast-rising prospect, and by the sounds of it, could plug and play at three different positions (LG, C, RG). This flexibility could allow the Seahawks to deploy their best five offensive lineman. Even if Schneider adds nobody else at interior offensive line (hopefully he does), adding Zabel to the mix would appear to be an upgrade.

Schneider notoriously loves his senior bowl players—in 2024 seven of Seattle’s eight selections were all senior bowl players. Perhaps Schneider will continue this streak into 2025 and select Grey Zabel.
