Jeremiah thinks the Saints or Raiders would be a great spot for Sanders.
The NFL Combine is right around the corner, and NFL’s Daniel Jeremiah held a Zoom call to preview the NFL Combine and talk about some of the NFL’s top draft prospects. During the call, Jeremiah identified the New Orleans Saints as a potential landing spot for Colorado quarterback, Shedeur Sanders.
“The Saints make sense to me. The Raiders make sense to me. It’s more so about fit than anything else when it comes to those guys,” said Jeremiah.
Now this may cause a bit of a split reaction from Saints fans. There are some people out there who love Shedeur and then there are some out there who dislike him. There are some people who want to see the Saints use their top-10 pick on a quarterback and some who think they should fill some of their other needs first.
Whichever boat you sit in, I think we can all agree that Shedeur would be an upgrade over what the Saints have. The question is, is he that much better than Derek Carr or Spencer Rattler that they should burn the 9th overall pick on him? Personally, I don’t think so. And I don’t think Jeremiah does either.
When speaking about drafting a quarterback early - more specifically drafting one early in this year’s draft - he said you need to make sure that the guy you take isn’t going to have you back in the same spot two to three years down the line.
“You can make the case that he’s better than what we have, but is that the marker?” said Jeremiah. “If you’re going to be back two or three years from now saying, ‘this isn’t good enough, we need better,’ then you don’t want to draft someone just because he was a little bit better than the guy you had currently on your roster.”
That doesn’t mean Jeremiah doesn’t like Sanders. He complimented some of the things he does well such as his accuracy and anticipation, but he clearly thinks Cam Ward is the best quarterback in this class
“I like Shedeur (Sanders),” said Jeremiah. “When you look at the things he does really well - the accuracy, the anticipation and the toughness. He just keeps getting up after taking a beating. But some of the other things that Cam (Ward) has that he doesn’t have is, he’s just a little bit more twitchy with his body and he’s got a more live arm.”
To better put into perspective how he views Sanders, Jeremiah told us he would’ve been his QB7 in last year’s draft, which saw six guys go in the top-15 picks. He would’ve ranked him behind every quarterback that went in round one.
“Michael Penix, I had just slightly ahead of Shedeur, so Shedeur would’ve been behind Caleb (Williams), Drake (Maye), Jayden (Daniels), (J.J.) McCarthy, (Bo) Nix and (Michael) Penix.”
Is Shedeur the answer for the Saints? Personally, I don’t...
