Dan Quinn: Marcus Mariota day-to-day after stitches in hand; Could sign another QB

Dan Quinn spoke to reporters for what’s normally “Tell the Truth Monday”, but it’s on a Sunday due to the game yesterday against the Eagles. The Washington Commanders are on another short week, and have to start preparing for Thursday’s Christmas Day game against the Dallas Cowboys.

Injuries have been the story of the season, and that continues in the final weeks. Marcus Mariota has been filling in at starter with Jayden Daniels shut down for the season, but now he is dealing with his own injury issues. He left the game yesterday with a possible concussion and a hand injury. He was cleared of the concussion, but didn’t return to the game. Quinn said he had stitches on his hand, and is also dealing with a quad injury that happened on the same play. Josh Johnson was the only other QB available yesterday, and he finished the game. The Commanders have the option of elevating Sam Hartman from the practice squad, or signing another QB to the roster. Mariota is considered day-to-day.

There were several other injuries from yesterday’s game. Sam Cosmi is in concussion protocol. Brandon Coleman is dealing with a shin injury, but he’s hopeful he’s available on Thursday. Rookie WR/PR Jaylin Lane suffered an ankle injury and is doubtful to play this week. Johnny Newton was evaluated for a concussion, and he’s good to go. Quinn didn’t have an update on Laremy Tunsil who missed his first game of the season with a strained oblique.
