Dan Quinn: “I haven’t seen the speed that I wanted, but I know we have speed”

Dan Quinn spoke to reporters before the Washington Commanders hit the practice fields to prepare for Monday night’s away game against the Kansas City Chiefs. WRs Terry McLaurin(groin) and Deebo Samuel(heel) are both returning to practice today, which will be a big boost to the offense. Jayden Daniels was reportedly ruled out, and Quinn confirmed that it will be Marcus Mariota starting against the Chiefs, his third start for an injured Daniels this season. The injury was described as “not significant or long-term”, but Daniels will spend this week focused on recovering from the hamstring injury he suffered last week vs the Cowboys.

The Commanders defense has had issues all season, and there have been calls for change from coaching to personnel. Quinn said there will be adjustments, but he avoided committing to any bigger changes to the coaching staff or starting players getting benched. Quinn said the speed is there, but he’s not seeing it as much as he should be. Coaches will be eliminating some plays to remove hesitation, and allow players to play more free.
