Dan Quinn spoke to the media before today’s afternoon practice. He talked about what he liked(run game, offensive line, defensive energy) and what he didn’t like(turnovers, tackles, breaking tackles) from Monday night’s preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Brian Robinson didn’t play in that game, and he won’t be at practice today. The Washington Commanders are looking to trade him as they move to other running backs old(Ekeler, Rodriguez, McNichols) and new(Bill). Quinn is hoping for a resolution soon, and that will likely mean releasing their former starting RB if they can’t find a trade partner.
Terry McLaurin also wasn’t at the Commanders Monday Night Football game, and won’t be at today’s practice. He’s coming off the PUP list for an ankle injury, and also in a contract dispute with the team over the terms of a contract extension that both sides aren’t able to agree on. Quinn said he is “ramping up” and he’s out of the rehab face. His ankle is healthy, and they’re now working on conditioning before he returns to practice. McLaurin won’t play in the preseason finale Saturday afternoon, and reports continue to say the sides are still not close on a new deal.
Rookie CB Trey Amos was a surprise scratch on Monday night, and Quinn told reporters after the game that he was experiencing hamstring tightness. If it was a game, he would have played, and he’ll return to practice today. Sam Cosmi continues to impress Quinn with his recovery from a torn ACL in the playoffs earlier this season. He’s still on the PUP list, and the team will have to make a decision on him when they cut the team down to 53 players on Tuesday. Quinn is encouraged by the possibility of him being on the active roster coming out of training camp.
Brandon Coleman is returning to practice today after missing several weeks with an undisclosed injury. He is switching from LT to LG this season, and was handling the transition well before he was sidelined on August 2nd.
