The Cleveland Browns made a change at quarterback on Wednesday. Cleveland announced Dillon Gabriel as their new starter, benching Joe Flacco after starting 1-3. But Shedeur Sanders is still third on the depth chart. And he did not help himself with his mime routine on Wednesday.

ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky did not have kind words for Shedeur Sanders after his recent mime act.

“I actually don’t think there is a time and place to act like that as a quarterback,” Orlovsky said on Thursday via Get Up. “I think one, everything that you do as a quarterback, I don’t care if you’re first, second or third, is a job interview. In that league, every single thing you do is a job interview.”

Sanders pantomimed answered to multiple questions from reporters on Wednesday.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Sanders pantomimed in front of reporters in response to ESPN’s Rex Ryan, who criticized him earlier in the week.

Orlovsky questioned whether Sanders actually helped himself, now or in the future, with his mime act.

“My question to Shedeur would be do you think you’re helping yourself within your own building,” Orlovsky continued. “Did that 30 or 40 seconds help you in your own building when it comes to what they think you can be in the future? And did you help yourself outside of your own building? There’s 64 jobs, essentially, at that spot in the NFL. Did that 30 or 40 seconds help you at all when it comes to your future there or your future elsewhere?”

Orlovsky himself was a fifth-round draft pick. He explained that Sanders is not making himself more appealing to NFL teams by acting immature.

“When you’re a later round draft pick, every single thing you do has to be from the lens of how do I make myself more appealing to the people in this building,” Orlovsky concluded.

Sanders is only four weeks into his professional career, so it is too early to tell if he’ll be a bust. But Orlovsky does highlight some good reasons why some NFL teams may not view him as a franchise guy.

Regardless, Shedeur and the Browns do not have the luxury of lingering on his awkward comments.

Cleveland has to prepare for an international game in London against Minnesota in Week 5.
