Earlier this season, A.J. Brown expressed dissatisfaction on social media regarding his involvement in the Philadelphia Eagles‘ offensive schemes.

The comments prompted speculation about a potential trade, particularly after losses to the Denver Broncos and New York Giants.

No transaction has been reported as likely, but the Eagles have faced public criticism over their offensive strategy and limited usage of Brown in downfield plays.

The team’s approach has raised questions about whether they are maximizing one of the league’s premier receivers.

Former NFL quarterback and current ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky provided commentary on Brown’s potential mindset during a segment on First Take.

His remarks went beyond surface-level analysis of the receiver’s social media activity.

“I would disagree that [A.J. Brown’s] trying to send a message of, ‘I want the ball thrown to me more.’ I think that there is a reality there that A.J. Brown prefers to be traded. Because there’s been a consistent disconnect. Something is up there. I’m not trying to read too much into it. I do think there’s parts of A.J. Brown that would prefer to be traded, and maybe traded to a place that is a little bit more pass-centric,” Orlovsky said.

The Philadelphia Eagles entered 2025 with expectations of fielding one of the NFL’s top offenses.

Their unit featured 2024 MVP candidate Saquon Barkley alongside Brown and DeVonta Smith, a trio that fueled their strong performance last season.

However, recent trends suggest the offense has not operated at that same level.

Many believe quarterback Jalen Hurts has not consistently targeted Brown on deep passes, while Barkley’s production has declined noticeably in recent weeks.

On Sunday, the Eagles recorded a road victory over the Minnesota Vikings, improving their record to 5-2.

Brown contributed six receptions for 80 yards against New York and followed with four receptions for 121 yards and two touchdowns against Minnesota.

Despite his recent production, analysts have noted the offense continues showing limited downfield targeting of receivers.

Brown remains a bona fide superstar, and his talent naturally generates attention.

Whether recent performance trends indicate sustainable improvement will become clearer as the season progresses.
