ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky was one of 27 voters who propelled Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen to his first NFL MVP Award. Allen took a narrow victory by just 21 points over Baltimore Ravens superstar QB Lamar Jackson. Jackson was gunning for his third MVP award and was considered the favorite after being named first-team All-Pro at the quarterback position over Allen.
It’s important to note that the 50 voters who select the NFL MVP are the same voters who choose the All-Pro teams. Jackson received 30 first-team All-Pro votes, meaning that seven voters changed switched from Jackson to Allen when choosing the MVP. One of those seven was Orlovsky. On Friday’s episode of “Get Up” on ESPN, he attempted to explain his rationale.
Domonique Foxworth and Jeff Saturday laughed at Dan Orlovsky’s explanation for splitting his All-Pro and MVP vote.
Saturday: “Is this MVP of the league or the Bills?”
Foxworth: “You’re trying to split the baby. You don’t have the heart to say what you actually want to say. …… pic.twitter.com/av9PZxf6PH

Orlovsky stated that Jackson had the better season from a statistical standpoint. But he claimed that Allen was more valuable to his team and needed to do more with less to succeed. His co-hosts, Jeff Saturday and Dominique Foxworth, did not see things the same way. Both former players laughed at Orlovsky before Foxworth began his retort.
“This is the semantics foolishness that we do. This is what you do,” Foxworth said. “You say ‘value’ and the cool thing about value gives us on these shows a way to argue because you can twist it and turn it any way you want. Normally, MVP means ‘who is the best damn dude in the league’ and to me, obviously, Josh Allen had an MVP caliber season, but the best d— dude in the league this year was the guy who was first-team All-Pro.”
Neither Allen nor Jackson were the wrong choice, per se. Which is why the voting was so close to begin with. And both Orlovsky and Foxworth’s arguments hold merit.
Which one holds more merit? Well, that’s for you to decide.
