Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers revealed on The Pat McAfee Show in June that this year will likely be his last season in the NFL. He also disclosed that he doesn’t want to live a life in the public eye. He said once he’s done playing football, “you won’t see me.”
“I didn’t need this. I didn’t need it all,” Rodgers said. “I don’t feel the need to prove anything to anybody (and) don’t have any chip on my shoulder that I need to hold on to. I don’t want the attention. I know that’s a narrative out there. When this is all done … you won’t see me. I won’t be in the public.”
It’s unclear if Rodgers still has that same mindset, or if he wants to run it back another year. Rodgers is currently on a one-year deal with the Steelers.
Former Miami Dolphins quarterback and Hall of Famer Dan Marino hopes the four-time NFL MVP is not done.
“I’ve met him a few times, but never really had dinner or other things,” Marino said of Rodgers in a recent interview with DJ Siddiqi of Poker Scout. “We played golf one time years ago when he first got in the league out in Lake Tahoe when they had the celebrity event. Other than that, just some interviews I did with CBS, but he has been an incredible player. He throws it as good as anybody ever has in the league, and hopefully he continues to play.
“Because it’s in your heart, it’s in your soul, your mind. You want to do it. He’s been doing it at a high level for a very long time. Hopefully, he can continue to do that.”
Philip Rivers shocked the NFL world on Tuesday by signing with the Indianapolis Colts’ practice squad. The 44-year-old has been out of the NFL for nearly five years.
Rodgers, who’s 42 years old, is no longer the oldest player in the NFL. Tom Brady played in the NFL until he was 45 years old. Perhaps Rodgers has a few more years left in him.
He can still sling the football. That’s for sure. He displayed that on his 52-yard completion to DK Metcalf on Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens. Rodgers has been hindered with a fractured left wrist, however. Would he want to go through another offseason of training and the grind of an NFL season? Only time will tell.
Marino thinks Rodgers’ best trait his arm talent. He also mentions what a competitor Rodgers is.
“His arm, his ability to make all the throws,” Marino said of Rodgers. “The velocity he has on the ball, the location, all those things. Plus, he’s been a mobile quarterback. He makes things happen with his legs, all those things. He’s a competitor. The big thing, we talk about all the quarterbacks, the ones current or past and you got to have guys that want to compete and want to win in the worst way.
“Big-time competitor, playing...
