Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin has screened the final cut of his documentary ‘Did We Win’ for the first time. According to Hamlin, it made him cry “90 times.”
During a nationally televised Monday Night Football game on January 2, 2023, Damar Hamlin infamously collapsed after a seemingly routine tackle on Bengals receiver Tee Higgins when Higgins’s shoulder struck Hamlin in the chest.
The impact triggered a rare condition known as commotio cordis, which occurs when a blunt blow hits the chest at a precise 10–40 ms window of the cardiac cycle, leading to ventricular fibrillation and sudden cardiac arrest.
Bills trainers had to rush to Hamlin’s care, where they administered CPR and used an automated external defibrillator (AED) for nearly 29 minutes on the field, successfully restoring Hamlin’s heartbeat. He was then was rushed to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center and before being transferred to a Buffalo hospital to recover.
Hamlin went on to make a full recovery and has been a key member of the Buffalo Bills ever since, making him a prime subject for a sports documentary.
“Just watched the first final cut of my documentary.. cried 90 times. Can’t wait for the world to see this thing!! Made so much progress in 2.5 years that it was humbling to relive some of the craziest moments of my life… wow,” Hamlin tweeted.
The doc, titled Did We Win and hailing from Skydance Sports and NFL Films, was directed by Clay Tweel and produced by Beau Flynn of FlynnPictureCo and Shannon Riggs of Parkside Films.
“We’ve been with him every step of the way,” Flynn said of the project when it was announced in September 2023.
“He just continues to beat the odds at every turn. Now we’ll stay with him as the season unfolds on a Super Bowl-caliber team, and we’ll go from there. Already, this movie continues to be Rocky and Rocky II over and over again.”
Heading into 2025 training camp, the Bills have Hamlin listed as their starting free safety on the team’s official depth chart.
