The Dallas Cowboys aren’t quite one of the worst teams in the NFL. But they’re darn close to it.
That is, almost entirely, due to the fact that the Cowboys have one of the worst defenses in the NFL. While Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and George Pickens lead an offense that is top-five in both scoring and total yardage, the defense is an absolute abomination.
Dallas ranks both 31st in the NFL in both points per game allowed at 30.3 and yards per game at 397.4. And while owner Jerry Jones says he’s too preoccupied by trying to become even more exorbitantly wealthy drilling for oils, he did try to help the defense to some degree on Tuesday.
However, he did so in the most amusing way possible.
On Tuesday morning, the Cowboys acquired linebacker Logan Wilson from the Cincinnati Bengals in exchange for a seventh-round pick.
It was a badly needed move. Dallas has tried and failed all season to fix its gaping hole at middle linebacker, going from Marist Liafau, to Jack Sanborn, to Kenneth Murray. Nothing has worked.
So now they turn to Wilson. There’s just one problem.
Wilson was recently benched by the Bengals. Now, that doesn’t inherently mean that he is a bad player. The next part, however, should raise some concerns.

See, the Bengals aren’t exactly the premier defense in the NFL. In fact, they are exact opposite.
Cincinnati is the only defense in the NFL to rank behind Dallas both in points per game allowed and yards per game, and it’s not all that close!
The Bengals allow nearly 30 more yards and three more points per game than the Cowboys, who already have an absolutely terrible defense.
Sure, that’s not only Wilson. But if you can’t get on the field in that situation, how much can you really help somewhere else?
The good news for Dallas fans is that the team only gave up a seventh-round pick, and if Wilson somehow turns things around with the Cowboys, he has two years remaining on his contract. So it is a low-risk move. But it also seems like the likelihood of a reward is very, very low as well.
