Dak Prescott might be getting some unexpected help, not from the draft or training camp. From a boat, actually.
That’s where Stefon Diggs found himself this offseason, in a now-viral clip on Twitter doing double-takes. The All-Pro wideout was seen cruising with a group of women and an unknown pink substance, raising a few eyebrows and many questions: no arrests, no suspension, but plenty of concern, especially from the buttoned-up New England Patriots.
Now? The hype that a trade could be incoming. And Dak Prescott’s Cowboys might be the landing spot.
Dallas already made waves trading for George Pickens, but if this deal happens, Prescott could be throwing darts to one of the most explosive wideouts of the past decade.
The trade idea came from Last Word on Sports, and it’s not some pipe dream. Writer Anthony Palacios laid out a scenario where the Patriots ship Diggs to Dallas, giving the Cowboys a loaded receiving corps with CeeDee Lamb, Pickens, and now Diggs as a slot option.
“Jalen Tolbert is entering his contract year, and he’s a WR3 for the offensive unit,” Palacios noted. “If he doesn’t prove himself, they could trade for Diggs… to not only depend on CeeDee Lamb and Pickens in the deep threat route, but give Dak Prescott a potential reliable receiver like Diggs in the slot.”
For a quarterback like Prescott, who’s been carrying the offense through fits and starts, that’s a dream scenario. Add the fact that Diggs would reunite with his brother Trevon in Dallas, and things get even more intriguing.
But it’s not that simple. While Diggs hasn’t faced any legal issues from the viral boat video, the Patriots are known to run a tight ship. Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated said the meeting between Diggs and head coach Mike Vrabel “went fine,” but added, “It’s more like, ‘There are cameras on the boat? What are you thinking?’”
Diggs, for his part, stayed vague. “I don’t talk about my personal life with people I don’t know personally,” he told NBC Sports Boston. “I had a conversation with Vrabes… Hoping everybody’s making good decisions.”
Dallas will be watching if the Patriots decide this isn’t worth the headache. Because for a quarterback like Dak Prescott trying to get over the hump finally, a fired-up Stefon Diggs might be the bold move they need.
