The Dallas Cowboys may have signed quarterback Dak Prescott to a $240 million extension in September, but that doesn’t mean Jerry Jones has to stay committed to the 31-year-old signal-caller.
Dallas is coming off a disappointing 7-10 season, leading to the departure of head coach Mike McCarthy. Even before Dak Prescott suffered his season-ending hamstring injury, Dallas never resembled a playoff contender and went 3-5 in games started by No. 4.
Jones has too much money tied up in an underachieving core that includes Prescott, CeeDee Lamb and Trevon Diggs. If Jones accepts that he can’t win with this core, he should consider trading his franchise QB.
The Cleveland Browns need to move on from the disastrous Deshaun Watson era and restart at QB this offseason. If Dak Prescott is available on the trade market, the Browns should step up and make Jones an offer he can’t refuse.
Dak Prescott threw a game winning TD pass, on the road in a hostile environment without Micah Parsons, Demarcus Lawrence, Brandin Cooks and lost his starting LT in the first half of the game. Cleveland holds the No. 2 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, but more draft capital could be on the way with superstar defensive end Myles Garrett requesting a trade. If the Browns can add more picks, why not make a move for Prescott and avoid having to start over with the draft-and-develop process?
Since this year’s draft class is weak for quarterbacks, the Browns should willingly offer Dallas the No. 2 pick for Dak Prescott and their 2025 second-round draft selection (44th overall).
With the deal, Dallas can take a can’t-miss prospect like edge rusher Abdul Carter or two-way star Travis Hunter or roll the dice on a quarterback like Miami’s Cam Ward or Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders.
Meanwhile, Cleveland secures an established quarterback and gets a valuable second-round pick. It’s a win-win for both clubs.
