With the 2025 NFL Draft over, the Dallas Cowboys are reportedly eyeing a reunion with free agent wide receiver Amari Cooper.

The 30-year-old Amari Cooper remains unsigned nearly two months after free agency opened. And with the Cowboys needing a No. 2 receiver to complement superstar CeeDee Lamb, Jerry Jones and company are reportedly interested in bringing back their old friend.

According to a report from Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Dallas has “interest in” bringing back Cooper, who played with the Cowboys from 2018 to 2021:

“While attention is still devoted to the trade market, so is the availability of veteran free agents. Intriguing options remain unsigned such as Keenan Allen, Nelson Agholor and Robert Woods. However, there is building team interest in bringing free agent Amari Cooper back for a reunion in Dallas, according to a Star-Telegram team source.”

Cooper is coming off a down season with the Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills, catching just 44 passes for 547 yards and four touchdowns in 14 games. Cooper averaged a career-low 39.1 yards per game, surprisingly failing to form much chemistry with eventual MVP winner Josh Allen.

But Amari Cooper’s career track record speaks for itself: Five Pro Bowl selections and seven 1,000-yard seasons, without an elite quarterback for most of his career. And though he’ll be 31 in June, Cooper is just two years removed from a career-high 1,250-yard season in 2023.

The Cowboys acquired Cooper in a blockbuster trade with the Oakland Raiders in the midst of the 2018 season, and he helped them to an NFC East division crown after a slow start from Dak Prescott and company.

In three and a half seasons with the Cowboys, Cooper racked up 292 receptions for 3,893 yards and 27 touchdowns.

Amari Cooper Is The Ideal Free Agent Target For Cowboys

The Cowboys have lacked a capable No. 2 receiver since…you guessed it…they traded Cooper to the Browns in the 2022 offseason. Michael Gallup and Brandin Cooks couldn’t fill the void, so why not bring back someone who’s familiar with the Dallas offense?

Dak Prescott had his best season in 2023 with CeeDee Lamb as his only game-changing playmaker. Now imagine if he got to reunite with Cooper, who was a borderline superstar during his time in Dallas.
