As owner of the Dallas Cowboys, Jerry Jones rarely shies away from the chance to add top talent. Right now, the Cowboys’ offense is jam-packed with elite players.
Defensively, there’s still work to be done, but the upside cannot be denied. Now it’s up to first-year defensive coordinator Christian Parker to maximize the potential of several young athletes like DeMarvion Overshown, Malachi Lawrence, and Caleb Downs. Yet, after the Cowboys allowed more points than anyone else, it’s fair to wonder whether this unit still needs a bit more help.

The Cowboys have drastically rebuilt their linebacker room from last season. With Overshown back to 100% after being limited to just six games a season ago, he’s expected to fill a starting role alongside trade newcomer Dee Winters from San Francisco. Behind them, the Cowboys drafted Jaishawn Barham to provide key depth along with 2025 fifth-round pick Shemar James.
Dallas is entrusting a lot on the shoulders of Overshown, but the 25-year-old has survived just 19 games since being selected in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft. Recently, Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox suggested that the Cowboys are a “logical landing spot” for free agent linebacker Bobby Wagner.
Knox also listed the Jacksonville Jaguars as another ideal destination for Wagner after they let Devin Lloyd sign with the Carolina Panthers in free agency.
As for Wagner? The future Hall of Famer was still productive last season, starting all 17 games for the Washington Commanders and recording over 100 tackles, just like he’s done every season of his career. Despite his advanced age and declining skills, Wagner would bring valuable experience to a young group of Cowboys linebackers, who may benefit from the 14-year veteran’s insight.
